First Creek
The 1st Creek project involved the installation of over 10,000 linear feet of 42” FRP Hobas sanitary sewer pipe, along with several large precast manholes ranging from six to 10 feet in diameter. Key components included 140 LF of 54” steel casing installed with a GBM/auger boring machine and 335 LF installed using the MTBM method, both housing 42” carrier pipe. Additionally, portions of the work required hand tunneling and vacuum excavation, along with strategic crossings under major roads like Highpoint Boulevard and Argonne Street.
Project Highlights
- Open cut and trenchless methods
- 10,000 feet of pipe
- Road crossings
Challenges
- Technically complex project with deep trenches reaching up to 30 feet
- A mix of open-cut and trenchless installation methods needed
- A substantial amount of groundwater requiring extensive dewatering efforts—especially around the micro tunneling operations
- Needing to coordinate work across multiple municipalities
Solutions & Approach
- Focus on precise communication and coordination among all parties involved
- We employed slide rail systems to ensure trench safety and maintain progress on schedule
