Blessings in a Bag
Blessings in a Bag is a backpack program that has been serving and helping children in food-insecure homes in the Fort Lupton community since 2006 by providing bags of supplemental weekend food.
The program is funded by donations and grants and is put together with help of hard-working volunteers. Blessings in a bag reaches all five schools in Fort Lupton and averages 130 bags per week with about four meals per bag.
Our Vision
Blessing in a Bag’s focus is on providing community support as close to the actual need as possible. We work with schools and teachers who have hours of contact with kids to make sure what we are giving helps with as few strings attached as possible and to areas of greatest need.

Blessings in a Bag focuses on protein content in our meals because even though protein is critical for children’s growth and development, it can be challenging for children to get the recommended amounts of protein in their daily diets. This can especially be true in food-insecure homes.
We gave away 16,000 pounds of food last year, which is roughly the weight of an African Elephant.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture defines food insecurity as “Households that are uncertain of having, or unable to acquire, enough food to meet basic needs of all their members because of insufficient money or other resources.”
“We live in a world in which we need to share responsibility. It’s easy to say, ‘It’s not my child, not my community, not my world, not my problem.’ Then there are those who see the need and respond. I consider those people my heroes.” – Mr. Rogers
