SEWER IMPROVEMENTS FOR LIMA ALLEY AND PARIS ALLEY

History

Due to growth and redevelopment in parts of Aurora’s older neighborhoods, the existing sewer system was at capacity. The Lima and Paris Alley Sewer Improvements project addressed the issue by installing a parallel sewer system. The project included nearly 3.5 miles of new 8-15" PVC sewer with depths ranging from 8 to 30-feet as well as three trenchless crossings completed by BTrenchless, each roughly 140 LF with a 12" carrier pipe.

Challenges

The project alignment included work in residential neighborhoods at depths up to 28 feet deep. There were 3 trenchless crossings under major city streets. Coordination with all the residents and business owners were required to cause as little disruption as possible.

Solutions

Early involvement with the Owner and Engineer allowed BT Construction to develop work plans to successfully complete the work.  This included minor alignment changes to avoid conflicts with existing utilities and adding additional bores for deep areas and to limit disruption in heavily trafficked roads.  We were also able to change one bore to a pipe burst to help shallow the alignment and save costs.
